What is an API program?

Sharing is Caring

In 2016, Gartner claimed we lived in an API economy. I think we have become even more data driven since then. Adopting an API first strategy allows companies to maximize delivery speed, scalability and stability.

API initiatives are iterative meaning they will constantly improve, but this requires a different way of funding. The API Team can’t be constrained by traditional project-focused IT budgets and needs to have a source of constant funding.

An API program is a plan that a company has developed to market, support and monetize a public API. There are thousands – maybe even tens of thousands of companies with public and open APIs.
